National teams embody a sense of connection with their homeland. Their players reflect the immigration history of their home countries. Who brought football to Brazil? Where do most World Cup participants from tropical Trinidad and Tobago play, a country that is making its debut in the World Cup and is the smallest nation by population ever to be represented in the tournament? What lies behind Angola’s “Football Miracle,” a country impoverished and torn apart after 27 years of civil war? How does the US national team reflect the country’s history as a classic immigration nation? And how does the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia intervene in the football business?

The special exhibition “32x Global. Football and Migration: The National Teams of the 2006 World Cup” provided 32 perspectives on the interplay between migration and football and was on display at the German Emigration Center from June 9 to August 6, 2006.
