The photo exhibition ‘Stangen’s Party’ showcased impressive images from an 84-day package tour to the USA, organized by the tour operator Stangen in 1893 in conjunction with the World Exhibition in Chicago. Rare photos from the Leibniz Institute for Regional Geography depict the journey from departure in Bremerhaven aboard the fast steamer ‘Saale’ of the North German Lloyd, through the visits to the rising world cities of New York, Washington, and Chicago, and the natural wonders in the western states. Numerous events on the topic ‘American images yesterday and today’ were held alongside the exhibition featuring films, readings, lectures, and more.
