“What do you see that I don’t see?”
Workshop exhibition featuring cross-border stories
From June 30 to August 20, 2023, the special exhibition wasWhat do you see that I don’t see?on view at the ACOMIS (Academy of Comparative Migration Studies) of the German Emigration Center. In the fall, it will move as a traveling exhibition to Offenbach, there expanded with a World Café in the House of City History Offenbach, and from November 1, 2023, will be shown in the rooms of theWeather and Climate Workshop Offenbach.

The interactive workshop exhibition tells of cross-border immigration stories. Migration stories do not simply begin in the country of origin and end here in Germany. They leave more or less visible traces in various places – here, there, and in between. In a World Café, our staff engaged with people with migration stories about the cross-border process of migration. The workshop exhibition not only presents the discussion results but also invites visitors to participate in the ongoing collection of ideas, thoughts, and associations. Because migration as a cross-border process and Germany as a migration society also challenge us to reflect on the narration of (migration) history – and to ask each other:What do you see that I don’t see?
Second exhibition in the series Your Story
The workshop exhibition is part of the exhibition and education projectYour Story – writing immigration history. In it, the researchers of the Academy of Comparative Migration Studies ACOMIS are exploring new ways to present migration and migration history as part of German history. By 2024, there will be four traveling exhibitions created that will be shown in various cities across the Federal Republic. The project will be accompanied by a blog, an event program, and workshops on immigration history and the immigrant society of Germany.
