About the German Emigration Center

The German Emigration Center shows how migration moves people – over a period of more than 340 years up until this day. Its focus is not numbers, but the personal stories of emigrants and immigrants. The award-winning museum gives a voice to those who are often overlooked. At the historic site of one of the largest European emigration ports, the museum collects, preserves, and tells biographies and objects that make migration tangible. With its permanent multimedia exhibition, regular special exhibitions, and numerous events, the German Emigration Center is a place that imparts knowledge, promotes exchange and encounters, and opens new perspectives.
