Cabaret director receives Cross of Merit on Ribbon

For around 40 years, Helene Daiminger from Bremerhaven and former school principal has dedicated herself to satire. In the early 1980s, she founded the ensemble Müllfischer (“Müfis”), through which she has tracked and commented on the political and societal events of her home region as well as the entire Federal Republic—sometimes quite biting, but always very humorous. For this, she has now been honored with the Cross of Merit on Ribbon.

Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier awarded her the order on November 10, 2021. Today, Bremen’s mayor Dr. Andreas Bovenschulte and Bremerhaven’s mayor Melf Grantz joined the congratulators and jointly presented Helene Daiminger with the honorable award in the New York Hall of the German Emigration Center.

That this award for the “Müfis,” Daiminger’s life’s work, falls on a Friday the 13th is somewhat symbolic: Also on a Friday the 13th, but in 2020, the troupe dissolved due to Corona. However, in his speech honoring the award recipient, Mayor Grantz was quite certain that both Helene Daiminger and the Müllfischer will remain in the memory of all Bremerhaven residents for a very long time.
