Departure to a New Life
The current issue of ZEIT Geschichte is dedicated to the theme “German Emigrants. Departure to a New Life – from 1680 to Today.” Three of our researchers are featured: Museum director and migration historian Dr. Simone Blaschka describes settlement colonialism by German farmers in the USA in the 19th century. Dr. Tanja Fittkau explains German migration to Canada in the 20th century using the example of Saarlander Hans Scheib. And Marie Grünter describes how in 1930s Brazil, National Socialists and victims of the regime meet.
