Visiting the German Emigration Center

Members of Parliament Katrin Budde and Uwe Schmidt used the session break to dive into over 300 years of German immigration and emigration history. Together with museum director Dr. Simone Blaschka and organizational director Julius Pöhnert, they followed the trails of historical emigrants all the way to New York.

In the extension building opened in 2021, they explored various migration debates in the young Federal Republic of Germany and got to know personal memorabilia and moving life stories of immigrants.
