In recent weeks, she had informed visitors of the Deutsches Auswandererhaus about the previously under-researched migration movements between Cuba and the GDR. Now it can be seen at the Museum in the Cultural Brewery in Berlin: The special exhibition “… a bit different, but just the same.’ Cuban-German history in the GDR and FRG from 1964 to today”.

The traveling exhibition from Bremerhaven was ceremoniously opened at the Museum in the Cultural Brewery on the evening of March 15. Until May 21, 2023, texts, videos, and personal objects from 10 eyewitnesses will be presented in the Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg. Structural parts of the special exhibition were newly designed for the historical industrial buildings. In the coming weeks, curator Lina Falivena will offer two guided tours on-site, which will now also tell German history from the perspective of people with migration backgrounds and their descendants to Berlin visitors.

The gate of the forge: In the old industrial building, the special exhibition will find a new home for a few months.

The exhibition house in the old brewery buildings belongs to the Museum Foundation of the House of History of the Federal Republic of Germany, which operates five museums focusing on various parts of German contemporary history in Bonn, Berlin, and Leipzig. The Museum in the Cultural Brewery addresses everyday life in the GDR in its permanent exhibition.

Familiar and brand new at the same time: The setup in the forge of the Museum in the Cultural Brewery.
