Extraordinary sound mix: The trio “Karmatürji”, consisting of İpek İpekçioğlu, Petra Nachtmanova, and Ceyhun Kaya, thrilled the audience.

On the evening of April 24, 2023, the German Emigration Center was a guest at the Bremen State Representation in Berlin. Guests from politics, culture, and science included representatives from the US Embassy, the Italian Embassy, several Bundestag members, and members of the Berlin Senate.

In addition to the architecture and the permanent exhibition of the migration museum, the collage of interviews, lectures, films, and videos also presented parts of the museum that often remain invisible to visitors at first glance: the material and documentary collection as well as the conceptual side of educational work. The evening was hosted by Markus Brock, who moderates the program “Museum Check” on 3sat, while actor Peter Jordan read from letters and travel diaries from the collection of the German Emigration Center.

In addition to faces from media and art and the scientific and creative minds of the German Emigration Center, regional and cross-regional political actors, such as Bremenhaven’s Mayor Melf Grantz, also spoke.

The event was accompanied by the trio “Karmatürji”, which, in line with the theme “Polyphony”, sang and performed multi-vocally and multilingual, including in Bulgarian and Czech to Persian and Turkish melodies.

During the subsequent Get Together, an animated exchange took place: The conversations between the staff of the Deutsches Auswandererhaus and the various Berlin museums inspired concrete ideas for future collaborations.
