Group tours
Motifs and developments focusing on: USA and GermanyThe tour through the entire exhibition shows 350 years of emigration and immigration history and connects biographical insights with societal debates.Duration: approx. 1.5 hoursLanguages: German / English (upon request)
German Overseas Emigration 1830–1974The tour focuses on the emigration part of the exhibition. The immigration section can be explored independently afterwards. The tour covers emigration in the 19th and 20th centuries, illustrated by biographical stations from Bremerhaven to New York City. Migration motives, sea voyages, immigration, and societal life are at the center, supplemented by personal insights and historical contexts.Duration: approx. 1.5 hoursLanguages: German / English (upon request)
The tour thematically guides through the exhibition with a focus on New York as a destination for historical emigration. It addresses urban history, the American Dream, and the coexistence of different groups – between hope, reality, and diversity.
Workshops (on request)
In this workshop, participants engage with the basics of migration. Together, they will develop a definition and learn about various forms of migration. Additionally, the motives and backgrounds of migration will be discussed. Through different teaching methods, a connection to the participants’ own life realities will be established and debated. In this workshop, participants actively address the history and present of immigration in Germany.
