Remo Guglielmi
Remo Guglielmi was born in 1969 in Civitavecchia, a coastal town near Rome. His fascination with the sea, maritime cities, and their high mobility sparked in him the desire to train as a naval mechanic in the Italian Navy. After his training in Sardinia, he joined the Amerigo Vespucci, the sailing school ship of the Italian Navy based in La Spezia. “I was a professional soldier and, as I considered, I was supposed to marry the Navy. I did not expect a coastal city: Bremerhaven.” During a shore leave in 1990 – when the grand tall ship meeting SAIL took place – he met his future wife in the Bremerhaven nightclub Enterprise. The two stayed in touch, and Remo Guglielmi spent his next vacation in the port city. The young woman from Bremerhaven visited him shortly afterward in Italy: The three weeks announced to her parents turned into almost two years of stay. However, the profession of Remo Guglielmi, marked by long absences, conflicted with the future plans of the young couple. In October 1992, they moved their center of life back to Bremerhaven. Already in January of the following year, Remo was employed at the Weser Ferry. He is enthusiastic about the work there, describing the North and South mole as his new home. In 1998 and 2009, two sons were born, who are growing up bilingual. The family travels to Italy annually, with few exceptions. For their later years, Remo Guglielmi and his wife can envision a second residence in Italy.

A portrait of Remo Guglielmi is one of the faces visible on the facade of the new Deutsches Auswandererhaus since June 2021. Prior to the opening of the extension with its artistically designed facade, the Nordsee-Zeitung introduced the individuals behind the faces.
