Chamber Concert on October 26, 2026, 8 pm

This program brings together three milestones in chamber music for wind instruments, highlighting the transition from late romanticism to modernity. Ludwig Thuille’s Sextet op. 6 (1891) serves as the sonorous foundation. As a close friend of Richard Strauss, Thuille combines late romantic pathos with an almost orchestral richness, with the piano majestically complementing the wind quintet. August Klughardt’s Quintet op. 79 (1901) is considered a classic of the genre. It captivates with its noble elegance and masterful shaping, perfectly bridging the spirit of the 19th century into the new century. In deliberate contrast, Darius Milhaud’s La cheminée du Roi René (1941) evokes, with Provençal lightness and neoclassical clarity, the atmosphere of the 15th century. Milhaud utilizes the colors of the winds for lyrical miniatures that, despite their creation in exile, radiate with charm and southern sunshine.
