This concert spans the bridge from Classical to Romantic. Franz Danzi showcases classical elegance and virtuosic dialogue in the Quintet g-minor op. 56/2. Following is the ‘French Beethoven’ George Onslow: His Quintet F-major op. 81/3 captivates with Parisian spirit and dense, almost symphonic textures. The finale is Antonín Dvořák’s op. 96. Famous as the ‘American Quartet’, it unfolds a unique charm in the wind version. Pentatonic motifs and broad melodies capture the longing and vitality of the New World.
