On this evening, we will explore the majestic and modern side of the trombone. The solemn beginning is marked by Beethoven’s Drei Aequale, which breathe deeply rooted traditions with their choral seriousness. Giovanni Gabrieli’s Cantate a 4 takes us back to St. Mark’s Cathedral and utilizes the magnificent polyphony of the Renaissance. In contrast, Derek Bourgeois’ Quartett op. 117 captivates with rhythmic energy and playful wit. The narrative conclusion is formed by Daniel Schnyder: His 1822 work brings the fictional meeting of Rossini and Beethoven to life in a powerful and stylistically diverse manner.
