The Lecture
Immigration Country Germany – between Isolation and Recruitment.Current migration trends, political measures, and controversies.
Dr. Marcus Engler will discuss the key developments in the field of flight and migration in Germany and place them in the European and global context. Germany’s migration policy is caught in a conflict of goals: stricter borders and deportations on one hand, acute skilled labor shortages on the other. Isolation and recruitment – how do they fit together? Federal policy is largely driven by a performative logic primarily aimed at reducing the political influence of the AfD. However, this political strategy does not work, and the damage to the immigration country Germany is substantial. In the lecture, proposals for a more future-oriented and pragmatic immigration policy will be discussed.
