The lecture
“What will happen next for the refugees from Ukraine?” This question is posed by Franck Düvell in his lecture on current developments, political perspectives, and possible future scenarios. The migration researcher at IMIS – Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies at the University of Osnabrück researches flight, migration, and the consequences of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, and has already published numerous contributions and analyses on the situation of Ukrainian refugees.
Currently, around 4.4 million Ukrainian refugees live in the European Union, about 1.2 million of them in Germany – and an end to the war is still not in sight. Franck Düvell highlights the challenges that arise from this for Europe, the municipalities, and the affected individuals themselves, how return perspectives develop, and which political decisions may be necessary in the coming years.
