At home in the Goethe Street
What is life like in the Goethe Street in Bremerhaven-Lehe? How is it in the Goethe Street in the Magdeburg district of Stadtfeld-Ost and in the Goethestraße in Munich-Ludwigsvorstadt? Oh yes – and in the Goethe Street in Chicago? Do locals and newcomers feel equally at home there? Questions such as these are being addressed by the German Emigration Centre in a current exhibition project, in which it sheds light on life in various Goethe Streets. The Migration Museum will present the results in a special exhibition starting on 7 August 2021.
For the exhibition, the curator searched for individual stories about life in these four Goethe Streets – and found: stories of (church) communities, companies, associations, pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops as well as biographies of residents, but also objects that symbolize the home in Goethe Street – combined with corresponding anecdotes.
