Emigration
In the first part of our exhibition, you can follow the footsteps of emigrants from all over Europe who hoped for a better life in the New World. They came from Oldenburg, Saxony, Austria-Hungary and Russia, fleeing from hunger, war, persecution or lack of prospects: On a moving, historical journey from the quay in Bremerhaven to the emigration station Ellis Island to the centre of typical immigrants life in the middle of 19th and 20th century New York, discover the real life stories of a wide variety of emigrants. The atmospheric, historically reconstructed exhibition rooms contain a variety of media and many personal memorabilia that bring the history of migration to life.
