The Lure of Outer Space
Emigration to Moon, Mars, Venus?

Special Exhibition 05/07/2025 – 07/01/2026

Outer Space has always been a lure to humankind. We can trace this back to the stone age and continue seeing it in today's art, history and science. But what is really to be expected out there? Are we able to survive in space? And what does it mean for us as humankind to travel to or even settle on distant planets? Can an uncontrolled race be prevented, which will end in distributing cosmos and its treasures to only a few powerful people?

From July 5, 2025, the German Emigration Center invites you on an exciting journey through current results of research and sociopolitical debates on life on the moon, Mars and Venus. Together with experts from science, research and politics, with artists and authors, we take a yearning but also critical look at the lure of outer space. Looking into the history of emigration, we'll see that many topics repeat themselves, when it comes to give serious consideration to settling on distant planets.

The Forum on Space Migration plays a vital role in the exhibition. This is where visitors can address the big questions of the exhibition and vote on them. Young explorers can follow an interactive trail and win a playful and creative approach to the exhibition. The exhibition combines current positions from science, art and humanities to get to the bottom of human's understanding of outer space.

The Space Migration Husting plays a central role in the exhibition: guests can address the major issues of the exhibition and put them to the vote. Young star travelers can follow an interactive trail with a playful approach to the exhibition.

Entry to the special exhibition is included in the museum's fee. Participating in a guided tour (in German) is included in the museum's fee.
